Location: Nice in France

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region

Nice, the capital of the Côte d'Azur is a truly cosmopolitan tourist destination. This part of the glorious French Riviera is the perfect resort for sun lovers, with many people choosing to relax along Nice's spectacular coastline during the sunny summer months and mild winters, where you are able to sunbathe, paddle in the azure sea, swim, water ski, parascend, jet-ski, or simply sip a smooth cocktail. Nice is home to many free stretches of beach and also a total of 15 private beach areas, referred to as 'plages concédées', where sun loungers can be hired for a nominal charge.

Many visitors staying in Nice enjoy a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais (Promenade of the English), which dates back almost 200 years and lines the city's Mediterranean coast at the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels). Central to life within Nice, this legendary boulevard is better known as simply the 'Promenade' and stretches for around 6 km / 4 miles, featuring many bright blue chairs where you can sit, relax and enjoy superb sea views.

Nice Weather and Climate: Photo of the coastline in the summer Nice is famous for its mild winter climate. Hot, sunny summer weather is also more or less guaranteed. In fact, with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, it's little wonder that Nice's climate has earned it a reputation as an all-year round resort.

Although the occasional 'mistral' wind can cause unpleasant dust storms, Nice is sheltered by the hills that lie to the north of the city. Nice enjoys low levels of rainfall. When heavy showers do occur now and then, they often soon clear to reveal blue skies and fine weather once again.

Nice / Musicians' Quarter area

Think of Nice and what probably springs straight to mind is its seafront location, dominated by a long promenade overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean. Perhaps less well known is the fact that Nice also boasts a charming old town quarter, vibrant modern district and affluent suburbs.

Each of these neighbourhoods has plenty to offer visiting tourists, including parks, museums and shopping centres. Nice's main districts and locations are given below.

Nice Tourist Attractions and Nice Sightseeing (Nice, Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur, France, FR).
Nice Tourist Attractions: Photo of the Cathedrale Orthodoxe Russe St. Nicolas. Nice has a great many tourist attractions to offer its visitors throughout the year. For tourists who prefer city attractions, including its historic buildings and parks, then Nice certainly has these in abundance.

Nice's position on the Mediterranean coast also means that the city has plenty of good beaches, splendid views and some delightful seafront promenades. Nice is an important historic and cultural city, as well as a popular coastal resort. Whilst its many beaches feature among the city's most popular natural landmarks, Nice is equally well known for its 19th-century seafront walk known as the Promenade des Anglais.

In recent years, monuments to modern art and contemporary architecture have also sprung up around Nice and have become increasingly popular with visitors to the city. The most notable landmarks and monuments in the French city of Nice are shown here.

Attractions Nearby Nice (Nice, Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur, France, FR).
Nice Attractions Nearby: Picture of MonacoWhilst there is no shortage of attractions in Nice itself, few visitors can resist the temptation to head out along the coast in search of other glittering Côte d'Azur towns and cities. By way of contrast, a short trip inland brings you to more traditional, but nevertheless charming, Provençal villages.

Many of these villages are close to Nice and full of appealing attractions, having become popular haunts for the region's artists. Here are a selection of the main attractions nearby Nice.
